FEB. 6 MTSU STAR PARTY FEATURES SPITZER SPACE TELESCOPE


(MURFREESBORO) — MTSU associate professor Eric Klumpe will discuss the “Spitzer Space Telescope (The Infrared Universe”) during the First Friday Star Party starting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 6 in Wiser-Patten Science Hall Room 102.
The approximately two-hour event includes Klumpe’s 30- to 45-minute public lecture followed by outdoor telescope observing, weather permitting.
The free star party is open to MTSU students, faculty and staff and the general public. Children are welcome, event organizers said.
Free parking is available behind Wiser-Patten Science Hall after 4:30 p.m. (this Friday only). Organizers request participants park in designated parking areas; handicap parking requires a state permit.
Here are directions to the parking lot: At the intersection of Baird Street and East Main Street, take Baird to MTSU campus. Turn right at stop sign onto Blue Raider Drive. Turn left onto Friendship Street. Continue past entrances to first set of parking lots on left and right. At curve in road, turn left into parking lot. Wiser-Patten Science building is the second building on the right, at the end of the parking lot.
Other spring First Friday Star Parties include March 6 (“Weird Galaxies” led by associate professor Charles “Chuck” Higgins, April 3 (“Saturn: The Ringed Wonder” led by Klumpe and May 1 (“Meteorites: Special Deliveries from Space” led by instructor JanaRuth Ford.
