MTSU HOST SITE FOR ‘SERENADE FOR LUCY STRICKLAND’ ON FEB. 13
Evening of Music and Prose Free & Open to the Community; Reception Included

(MURFREESBORO)—The School of Music, along with Rachel Strickland and Rock Strickland, will serve as hosts for a "Serenade for Lucy Strickland" beginning at 8 p.m. Feb. 13 in Hinton Music Hall in the Wright Music Building on the MTSU campus.
Free and open to the community, the event will be an evening of music, meter and prose to celebrate the life of Strickland, who was an active fixture in arts and community groups in the Murfreesboro area, a practicing lawyer and great supporter of MTSU, as was her late husband, Roscoe Strickland. A pre-concert reception will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Room 101 of the Saunders Fine Arts Building. This event, too, is open to he public.
Regarding the concert’s honoree, George Riordan, director of MTSU’s School of Music, said, "Lucy frequently attended concerts by School of Music faculty and students,as well as guest artists. She was one of our most knowledgeable audience members and patrons, capable of making insightful comments about the music and musicians that she heard.
“The sweep of her life was breathtaking—lawyer, family member, community activist, as well as amateur musician, ornithologist, astronomer and sports fan,” he added. “Lucy was one of the most interesting people I've met; it seems as though she packed three lives into her 83 years!"
The following are among some of the concert’s music works and performers:

• Carl Reinecke (1824-1910):
Trio for Piano, Oboe and Horn (first movement), with performers Laura Ann Ross, oboe;
