EUPHONIUM ARTIST JONES & PIANIST MAZZONI PERFORM FREE SEPT. 13

(MURFREESBORO)—Besson euphonium artist Brandon Jones and pianist Matthew Mazzoni will present A Guest Artist Recital at 5 p.m. Sept. 13 in T. Earl Hinton Hall of the Wright Music Building on the MTSU campus.
The duo will perform selected works from their newly released CD titled Influences.
" Brandon’s new CD includes some of the most difficult pieces in the euphonium repertoire today," said David Loucky professor of low brass at MTSU."
"Brandon’s playing is characterized by a beautiful “vocal” sound, an impeccable technique and a riveting interpretation of his repertoire," Loucky said. "(He) is one of the fastest rising euphonium virtuosos in the world today."
Jones is a graduate of Western Kentucky University and has been selected as an artist/clinician by the Buffet Crampon U.S.A. and Besson Brass Instruments team. He has performed with some of the world’s top ensembles, including the world-renowned Brass Band of Battle Creek.
Jones, in addition, has been a finalist in two world competitions in Lahti, Finland, and Greensboro, N.C., and won the Brass Band of Battle Creek “Avalon” competition. He was also a featured soloist at the 2009 International Tuba Euphonium Conference at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
Pianist Mazzoni, who has performed concerts across the United States, Puerto Rico and in Australia, is known for his interpretation of music spanning musical eras from the late Renaissance through the present day.
A recent recording project with flutist Kyle Dzapo will be released on the Naxos label. Currently based in St. Louis, he previously taught at Murray State University, Indiana University and the University of Michigan. He holds degrees from the University of Michigan and Indiana University.
The Sept. 13 concert is free and open to the public.
