CENTER FOR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND HEALTH IN YOUTH PRESENTS FREE LECTURE BY HEALTH-FITNESS EXPERT GREG HEATH ON APRIL 14 AT MTSU
Community Urged to Attend Scholar’s Talk on Physical Activity & the Environment

(MURFREESBORO)—MTSU’s Center for Physical Activity and Health in Youth will sponsor the second of two Distinguished Lecture Series in Youth Fitness and Sports this semester, beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 14.
Dr. Greg Heath, chairman of the Department of Health and Human Performance at University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, will present "Physical Activity and the Built Environment: If You Build It, Will They Come ... And Use It?" as part of the CPAHY series that will take place in the State Farm Lecture Hall (Room S102) of MTSU’s Business and Aerospace Building.
"There is great interest in better understanding how activity-friendly environments can influence the choices that people make to be physically active,” said Dr. Don W. Morgan, professor of health and human performance and director of the CPAHY. “Dr. Heath's talk will address how the physical design of our communities can play an important role in reducing childhood obesity and providing children and families with greater opportunities to lead an active lifestyle."
A former lead health scientist for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity, Heath also currently serves as director of research at UT’s College of Medicine. He has devoted most of his professional career devoted to the understanding and promotion of physical activity and exercise for the enhancement of health, as well as the prevention and management of chronic diseases. With a background in physiology, nutrition and epidemiology, Heath’s published more than 100 articles in publications such as the Journal of the American Medical Association, Circulation, The Journal of Applied Physiology, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, American Journal of Preventive Medicine, the American Journal of Epidemiology and the American Journal of Public Health.
