MUSLIM STUDENTS OBSERVE ISLAM AWARENESS WEEK AT MTSU
Discussions, Documentaries and Dinner Aimed at Promoting Greater Understanding

(MURFREESBORO) – The Muslim Students Association (MSA) at MTSU will present several events on campus during the annual Islam Awareness Week, Monday, April 5, to Thursday, April 8. On Monday, April 5, information will be available at a table in the Keathley University Center (KUC) from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. That evening, the PBS documentary “New Muslim Cool” will be screened from 4:45-6:30 p.m. in Room N116 of the Cason-Kennedy Nursing Building. A panel discussion featuring new Muslims titled “Islam and the West” will be moderated by Yasir Arafat, board member of the Islamic Center of Nashville, from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, in Room 318 of the KUC. Dr. Awad Binhazim, professor of pathology at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, will present a lecture on “Gender Relations in Islam” from 5:00-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, in the Hazlewood Dining Room of the James Union Building. A homemade documentary on how MTSU students view Islam and Muslims will be shown from 6:00-7:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, in Room 320 of the KUC. Dinner will be served, and elections of new MSA officers will follow. Snacks and refreshments will be available at all Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday events. All of the week’s activities are free and open to the public.
