SUMPTUOUS FASHIONS AVAILABLE FOR FREE VIEWING TO STUDENTS
Human Sciences Partners with Frist Center on Feast for the Eyes and the Education

(MURFREESBORO) – Some 130 people, most of them MTSU students, will take advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see “The Golden Age of Couture: Paris and London 1947-1957” for no charge tomorrow night, Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, 919 Broadway in Nashville.
The partnership between the Frist Center and the MTSU Department of Human Sciences is titled “Human Sciences Evening at the Frist,” and it will last from 6-9 p.m. College students with valid student IDs will be able to enjoy this exhibit of fabulous dresses and gowns for free. The Frist Center is the only location in the United States where the exhibit is on display. Tickets are $10 for the general public.
“The Golden Age of Couture” was assembled by London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, home to one of the finest costume collections in the world. The creations on display include daywear, cocktail dresses and evening gowns by Christian Dior, Cristobal Balenciaga, Hubert de Givenchy and other designers. Photographs by some of the finest fashion photographers of their era, including Cecil Beaton and Richard Avedon, are also part of the exhibit.
Deborah Belcher, interim chair of the Department of Human Sciences, says this event will be a wonderful experience for all students and of particular interest to those in MTSU’s Interior Design program and Textiles, Merchandising and Design program.
The Frist Center gift shop and cafĂ© will be open during the evening. In addition, the center will present “Music in the Lobby” from The Ukedelics, a wacky ukulele band, also free of charge.
Frist Center representatives will be available to welcome “Human Sciences Evening at the Frist” visitors in the lobby from 5-7 p.m. For more information, go to http://www.mtsu.edu/humansciences/ or http://fristcenter.org/site/exhibitions/.
