28th BCBST Martin Insurance golf tourney set for April 17

MURFREESBORO — The upcoming 28th annual BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee-sponsored Tommy T. Martin Chair of Insurance Invitational Scramble Golf Tournament will raise scholarship funds for MTSU students enrolled in the insurance program.

“The golf tournament is a tremendous source of income for scholarships,” said Dr. Ken Hollman, chair of the Martin Chair of Insurance program. “We look forward to another great year.”

“This has been a very successful run. We’re coming up on 28 years, and it continues to be successful because of this group,” Hollman added, mentioning the Insurance Liaison Committee members.

The tournament will be held Tuesday, April 17, at Champions Run Golf Course, 14262 Mt. Pleasant Rd., in Rockvale. Champions Run is an 18-hole, par-72 course that plays 5,973 yards from the gold tees that will be used in the tournament.

Tourney organizers are seeking teams and individual players for the 144-player field. The tourney is a best-ball scramble. The low team score wins. There are prizes for each player, awards for longest drive from the regular tee, award for closest-to-the-pins on all par 3s and a silent auction. Entry fees: $150 per player/$900 per team of six ($1,050 for team of six plus a hole sponsorship).

A silent auction will be held while the tournament is in progress.

“We keep building this and it keeps getting better and better,” said Jim Cavendish, the ILC chair.

Randy Harris, an ILC member from Tullahoma, said, “This tournament is superior to others.”
