MURFREESBORO — Interior designer/author Cathy Whitlock, who chronicles in print and online how films get their distinctive — and award-winning — looks, plans a special lecture in Murfreesboro on Tuesday, Sept. 11.

Whitlock’s lecture is co-sponsored by MTSU’s student chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers/International Interior Design Association and the Department of Electronic Media Communication in the university’s College of Mass Communication. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 11 in Maney Hall at the Oaklands Historic House Museum.

The free public lecture will be preceded at 5 p.m. by a special reception for Whitlock in Maney Hall. Oaklands is located at 900 N. Maney Ave.

Whitlock is the author of “Designs on Film,” a behind-the-scenes look at 100 years’ worth of Hollywood production design, including the film sets of “The Wizard of Oz,” “The Fountainhead,” “Rosemary’s Baby” and “Avatar.” She also is a contributing writer for Traditional Home and The Huffington Post, and her design, film, lifestyle and celebrity profiles have appeared in American Airlines Celebrated Living, Architectural Digest, Glamour UK and Veranda magazines.

Her blog, Cinema Style (wwwcinemastyle.blogspot.com), chronicles the world of art direction in film.
