MURFREESBORO — MTSU celebrates International Education Week Nov. 12-17 with a flurry of food, fairs and fun, all free and open to the public.

The festivities will begin with a panel discussion about MTSU students’ study-abroad trip to tsunami-devastated Fukushima, Japan, this past summer. Dr. Doug Heffington, director of global studies, will join the students for an intriguing review from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in Room 106 of the Paul W. Martin Sr. Honors Building.

International human rights lawyer and media commentator Arsalan T. Iftikhar will talk about “Global Muslims in the Post-Osama Era” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in MTSU’s Tucker Theater.

The Education Abroad Fair will feature information on study-abroad program options, scholarships and other financial aid from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in the lobby of the Student Union Building. International exchange students, study-abroad veterans, faculty and staff will be on hand to answer questions.

“How to Lead a Short-Term Study Abroad Program” is the topic of a workshop for faculty slated for noon Thursday, Nov. 15, in the Learning, Teaching & Innovative Technologies Center, Room 348 of the James E. Walker Library.

Dr. Ric Morris, an MTSU professor of Spanish, will host the world premiere screening of his documentary, “Cuba in the Raw: A Story of Sugar,” at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in the State Farm Lecture Hall of the Business and Aerospace Building. This film chronicles Cuba’s history from 1492 to 1922 through the rise of the island’s sugar industry.

Exhibits from more than 40 countries, entertainment, informational booths and food await visitors to Culture Fest 2012 from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in the Student Union Building. Coordinated by Students in Free Enterprise, this event celebrates the richness of diversity in the local community.

The final movie in the fall 2012 International Film Series, “In a Better World,” will be shown at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, in the Student Union Building’s theatre. This Danish motion picture tells the story of two boys and the dangerous act of revenge that puts their friendship to the test.
