[161] MTSU ‘True Blue Tour’ visits Nashville Oct. 8

MURFREESBORO — High school and community college students from the Nashville and Middle Tennessee region still have time to register for the Middle Tennessee State University True Blue Tour stop in Nashville.

A student reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Music City Center, 201 Fifth Ave. S. in Nashville. Students and their parents or guardians can preregister by going to http://tinyurl.com/truebluetour, or just come to the event.

Public, private, home school and community college students from Davidson, Montgomery, Cheatham, Robertson, Sumner, Wilson, Rutherford, Cannon, Bedford, Coffee, Williamson and Dickson counties and others from across the Midstate are welcome at the MTSU event.

MTSU’s top administrators and deans will meet with prospective students during the True Blue Tour, which is organized by the university’s admissions office. MTSU is in the midst of recruiting high school and transfer students for the 2014-15 academic year and beyond. Tour stops already have been made in Chattanooga, Johnson City and Knoxville. In addition to Nashville, the annual statewide tour will visit the Memphis area Monday, Oct. 21, and Jackson Tuesday, Oct. 22.

MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee and other administrators, deans of the eight academic colleges, and counselors from the financial aid, admissions and other offices will be available to answer questions from prospective students and their parents.

“We look forward to these trips each year,” McPhee said. “They allow us to meet top-notch students and tell them about all our university has to offer.”

At 11:30 a.m., counselors from area high schools and community colleges will be treated to a luncheon. McPhee and Dr. Deb Sells, vice president of Student Affairs, will lead the program. The counselors will visit with MTSU staff and administrators, and return to their respective schools with information they can share with their students.

MTSU will validate parking for students and counselors who park on the P-2 level in the center’s parking garage. Paid parking is available on other levels and other nearby lots.

Students who apply for MTSU admission by Dec. 1 receive priority consideration for scholarships, Sells said.

This fall, MTSU is also reaching out to about 15,000 Tennessee high school seniors with ACT scores of 19 and higher with a mailed brochure inviting them to attend a tour stop and visit the Murfreesboro campus, Sells said.
