[303] Student-soldier speaks out for veterans on “MTSU On the Record”

MURFREESBORO — MTSU’s efforts to assist students who are military veterans will be the focus of the next edition of the “MTSU On the Record” radio program.

Logue’s interview with Malcolm Stallard, president of the Blue Raider American Veterans Organization, or BRAVO, will air from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Monday. Jan. 6, and from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 12.

The interview, which had been scheduled to air the previous week, was pre-empted for a basketball postgame show.

Stallard, a sophomore social work major from Manchester, Tenn., served in Iraq from 2009 to 2010 and has served in the U.S. Army since 2008. He works with veterans who are negotiating the transition from military service to college education obtain access to the resources they need.

“I focus more on others,” Stallard said of his military experience’s effect on him as a person. “I guess I learned that because of taking care of my soldiers. I want to provide the best training and also the best education for them, and I find myself doing that here at MTSU as well.”
