MURFREESBORO — With MTSU spring semester classes ready
to begin Thursday, Jan. 16, the opening of the $16 million Student Services and
Admissions building in March will be a much anticipated and welcome addition to
campus for current and future students.
MTSU faculty, staff and administrators will welcome thousands
of students to campus for not only their classes, but also for music and
theatre events, special lectures, athletic competition and more.
“It
is with great anticipation that we greet the coming academic semester, as many
of our new Student Success initiatives — including the opening of the MT One Stop
facility — begin to take shape,” MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee said. “This is
an exciting time to be part of our university community.”
Last fall, MTSU unveiled a Quest for Student
Success initiative, helping to eliminate barriers to student success and
bolster retention and improve graduation rates. The plan will continue into the
new year and new semester.
All of MTSU eagerly awaits the March 17 opening of
the Student Services and Admissions building, which will include the MT One
Stop to bring admissions, financial aid, scheduling, course registration,
enrollment and business office functions together under one roof.
Located across Blue Raider Drive from the Student Union
and next to a new student parking garage, the approximately 58,000-square-foot facility
“represents a new way to think about the way we deliver basic enrollment
services in the areas of financial aid, course scheduling and enrollment,” said
Dr. Deb Sells, vice president of student affairs and vice provost for
enrollment and academic services. “The MT One Stop is designed to bring a new
approach to providing high-touch, comprehensive and coordinated enrollment
services to MTSU students.” The MT One Stop will be located on the second
floor.
From
the academic perspective, Provost Brad Bartel said all faculty members “are excited about the beginning of the spring
semester.” He added that MTSU “has additional advisers to assist students, and
the academic departments are offering a full complement of courses.”
Final-semester seniors will be working toward graduation Saturday,
May 10, when
MTSU will hold two commencement ceremonies.
Students in the College of Graduate Studies (all master’s,
education specialists and doctoral degree candidates), the College of Basic and
Applied Sciences, the Jennings A. Jones College of Business and the College of
Education will receive their degrees during the 9 a.m. ceremony.
A 2 p.m. commencement ceremony is planned for students
graduating from the College of Behavioral and Health Sciences, the College of Liberal
Arts, College of Mass Communication and University College.

MTSU will be closed and no classes will be held Monday, Jan.
20, for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Students and faculty will be off
Monday through Saturday, March 10-15, for spring break. Classes will end
Wednesday, April 30; a study day will be held Thursday, May 1; and final exams
will take place from May 2-8.
