[344] Think globally: Peace Corps recruiter visiting campus this week, April


A regional recruiter for the Peace Corps will be on the MTSU campus this week and again in April with information on global service opportunities for students, faculty, staff and the campus community.

Organizers say the Peace Corps is an opportunity for participants to “return home with the experience and global perspective to stand out in a competitive job market” while making a real impact around the world.

An information table will be available for students from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, in the Student Union atrium. The first special information session will run from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Room 218 of the MTSU Student Union.

The recruiter will also be at the Ag Career Fair from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, at the Tennessee Livestock Center on Greenland Drive.

In April, an informational table will be set up in the Student Union atrium from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, with drop-in times with the recruiter from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, in Room 226 of the Paul W. Martin Sr. Honors Building.

An information session will be held the same day from 6-7:30 p.m. in Room 218 of the MTSU Student Union.

A final drop-in session will run from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, in Room 226 of the Paul W. Martin Sr. Honors Building.

According to www.peacecorps.org, the Peace Corps is a U.S. international service organization that sends Americans abroad “to tackle the most pressing needs of people around the world,” with Peace Corps volunteers not only working at the grassroots level in international communities but also returning home a broader perspective of the world around them.

The Peace Corps’ identifies its mission as: helping people of interested countries meet their need for trained men and women; helping promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served; and helping promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.

The recruiter’s visit to MTSU is being sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts, Career Development Center and the University Honors College.
