[370] Fraternities, sororities serve community during MTSU’s Greek Week

MURFREESBORO — Public service that is performed year round by fraternities and sororities will be on display during MTSU’s Greek Week March 30-April 3.

The issues that students will tackle include homelessness, hunger and domestic violence. A major feature of this year’s celebration will be an all-Greek house-building for Habitat for Humanity throughout the week.

Builders will work in shifts from 8 a.m. to noon and from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at 447 Evergreen in Murfreesboro each day of Greek Week. Fifteen volunteers are needed for each shift.

Students will collect nonperishable donations for MTSU’s Student Food Pantry from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, March 30, and Tuesday, March 31, in the Student Union.

Alpha Tau Omega, Phi Beta Sigma and Sigma Nu will sponsor a True Blue Blood Drive from noon to 6 p.m. March 30 in Greek Row House 8 on Rutherford Boulevard. 

“Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” will take place at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, at the Campus Recreation Center. Joining forces with the June Anderson Center for Women and Nontraditional Students, Greek men will support domestic violence awareness by donning high-heeled shoes to find out what it’s like for women to flee their attackers.

Men are encouraged to bring their own high heels. Women are encouraged to wear flats and cheer on the men. Refreshments and “It’s On Us” T-shirts will be available.

Greeks will come together to discuss their issues in “The Talks” beginning at 6 p.m. March 31 in the Student Union Ballroom. The presidents of MTSU’s three Greek councils will address current conditions of the Greek community and outline plans for the future.
