[121] Alum, noted broadcast journalist to provide MTSU recruiting welcome in Atlanta Sept. 30

MURFREESBORO — Acclaimed documentary producer and Middle Tennessee State University alumnus Jeffery Reid of Atlanta will join university officials in welcoming prospective students and their families from north Georgia to this year’s expanded True Blue Tour.

A veteran broadcast journalist with more than 30 years in the industry, Reid will join MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee and others in greeting top Atlanta-area high school and community college students.

Reaching outside the state of Tennessee for the first time, the True Blue Tour caravan of MTSU administrators and academic personnel will be recruiting students from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Cobb Galleria Centre, 2 Galleria Parkway SE, Atlanta.

Reid, who earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from MTSU in 1981, will provide a brief welcome.

As news content manager for 11 Alive’s network of stations including Atlanta NBC affiliate WXIA, Reid was part of a team producing a documentary that aired in March about the 50th anniversary of the “Bloody Sunday” voting rights march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama. Since 2012, he has led 11 Alive’s investigative unit and numerous special projects as manager of enterprise content.

Reid was previously a news executive at CNN, with the award-winning “Black in America I and II” among his documentary work while there. His numerous awards include EMMYS and induction in August into the Silver Circle of the National Academy of Television Arts and Services Southeast Chapter.

Reid is both an MTSU College of Media and Entertainment Cornerstone Donor for a gift to the Center for Media and Innovation and 2010 Wall of Fame member.

Jeffery and Kim Reid’s son, Jeffery Reid Jr., is a junior in MTSU’s College of Media and Entertainment.

The university’s Academic Common Market, where Georgia students are offered in-state tuition for programs such as recording industry and others because no Georgia college or university offers these majors, will be a major topic, along with guaranteed scholarships for freshmen who meet ACT and GPA requirements and apply by Dec. 1.
