MURFREESBORO — The
pre-eminent World War II expert of his era will be the guest on the next
edition of the “MTSU On the Record” radio program.
Host Gina Logue’s interview with Gerhard Weinberg, professor
emeritus of history at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will
air from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, and from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct.
18, on WMOT-FM (89.5 and www.wmot.org).
Weinberg will be one of the featured speakers at MTSU’s 12th
biennial Holocaust Studies Conference Oct. 21-23. He will speak on “The
Holocaust after 70 Years” at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, in the Tennessee Room of
the James Union Building.

In addition, Weinberg will deliver an address on “World War
II: An Entirely Different Kind of War” at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Adams
Place, 1927 Memorial Blvd. in Murfreesboro. Both events are free and open to
the public.
One of Weinberg’s main concerns is the continuing erosion of
primary source paper records from the World War II era for historical research.
“The World War II paper has either already deteriorated
beyond where it can be read or is in the process of disappearing, and the
electronic records, for the most part, will not be accessible for very long,”
said Weinberg. “So, unless very special steps are taken … in the future, those
who are interested in doing research … will find it increasingly difficult.”
