[389] MTSU welcomes Harvard expert on mind-body connection March 21

MURFREESBORO — Shake off the winter blues by learning how to use the body to strengthen the mind at an enlightening MTSU lecture.

Dr. John Ratey, associate clinical professor of psychology at Harvard Medical School, will talk about how to energize the brain through exercise and physical activity at 6 p.m. Monday, March 21, in the Student Union Ballroom. A printable campus parking map is available at http://tinyurl.com/MTSUParkingMap.

Ratey, an internationally recognized expert in neuropsychology, has published more than 60 peer-reviewed articles and eight books, including “Driven to Distraction” and “Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain.”

One of the world’s foremost authorities on the brain-fitness connection, Ratey has embarked on a worldwide quest to get schools, corporations and individuals to use exercise for achieving peak performance and optimum mental health.

Ratey’s appearance originally was scheduled for Feb. 1, but it was postponed because of a university shutdown due to inclement weather. It is sponsored by the MTSU Distinguished Lecture Series, the MTSU departments of psychology and health and human performance and the Tennessee Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Kristi Phillips, instructor in the Department of Health and Human Performance, at 615-904-8326 or kristi.phillips@mtsu.edu.
