[129] ‘MTSU On the Record’ promotes presidential debate on campus Oct. 20

MURFREESBORO — A professor who is bringing three presidential candidates to campus, in a sense, will be the guest on the next the “MTSU On the Record” radio program.

Host Gina Logue’s interview with Pat Richey, director of forensics and debate coach, will air at its new times, from 8 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, and from 6 to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, on WMOT-FM/Roots Radio 89.5 and www.wmot.org.

The subject is “Think Before You Vote,” a discussion among three top student debaters who will portray three contenders for the White House, at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in the State Farm Lecture Hall of the Business and Aerospace Building. A printable campus map is available at http://tinyurl.com/MTSUParkingMap.

A moderator will pose questions to students playing the roles of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, Republican nominee Donald Trump and Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson while attempting to avoid referring to tabloid topics or personal attacks.

“We try to stick as close as possible to the actual candidates without getting any of the hearsay in there … so the audience can get an idea of what the policies are and what they want to do with said policies,” said Richey.

Following the event, Kaylene Gebert, a professor of communication studies and organizational communication, and Robb McDaniel, a political science professor, will add comments and context.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Richey at 615-898-2273 or patrick.richey@mtsu.edu.
