MURFREESBORO — History
students who are combining shoe leather with cyberspace to reveal downtown
Nashville to the public will be the topic on the next “MTSU On the Record”
radio program.
Host Gina Logue’s interview with Molly Taylor-Poleskey, an
assistant professor of history, will air from 9:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28,
and from 6 to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, on WMOT-FM Roots Radio 89.5 and www.wmot.org.
Taylor-Poleskey took her cue from a website called
“Cleveland Historical,” which enables users to access curated historical
walking tours and map-based, multimedia historical presentations about the Ohio
city.
Her digital history class has been working on a similarly
focused website that will promote walking tours of downtown Nashville that
target specific historical areas of interest.
“We’re trying to bring out histories that maybe the average
tourists wouldn’t anticipate when they come to visit Broadway, for example,”
said Taylor-Poleskey. “Hopefully, it will help people have a deeper
understanding of the many layers of Nashville history.”
Taylor-Poleskey’s students will test their work by taking
their own walking tours beginning from the state Capitol at 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 6, and at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11. When the webpage is finished,
