MURFREESBORO, Tenn. —
An MTSU student organization that
promotes educational success is marking its 30th anniversary on campus.
Members of The Honor
Society of Phi Kappa Phi enjoyed cake and soft drinks Wednesday, Dec. 6, to
celebrate the 1987 establishment of the MTSU chapter.
“Phi Kappa Phi is the most prestigious all-discipline honor
society,” said Dianna Rust, chapter
president and an associate professor of university studies.
“At MTSU, I think it has provided our students an outlet for
networking … but also with an opportunity to win scholarships, grants and
study-abroad grants.”
Founded in 1897, Phi Kappa Phi has chapters at more than 300
select colleges and universities in the United States, Puerto Rico and the
Philippines. The society inducts approximately 30,000 students, faculty,
professional staff and alumni each year.
Membership is by invitation only to seniors and graduate
students who rank in the top 10 percent of their class and juniors who rank in
the top 7.5 percent of their class.
