MURFREESBORO — Three
law enforcement officers who work for different state agencies are coming to
MTSU to share their perspectives with students.
A panel discussion titled “What is at STATE?” is slated for
1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, in the Parliamentarian Room of MTSU’s Student
Union. This event is free and open to the public.
Capt. Anthony April of the Alaska State Troopers commands the agency’s
“B” detachment, a unit that covers 52,465 square miles of territory from its
base in Palmer, Alaska. The coverage area is slightly larger than the entire
state of Arkansas.
Sgt. Charlie Caplinger is a Tennessee Highway Patrol public information
officer based in the Nashville area. He has worked for the THP since 2002 and
was named Trooper of the Year by the agency in 2010.
Jason Wilkerson is a special agent/criminal investigator with the
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. A veteran of more than 20 years with the
TBI, Wilkerson, an MTSU alumnus, is assigned to human trafficking
investigations within the agency’s Criminal Intelligence Unit.
The lawmen were invited by MTSU alumna Lynda Williams, a
professor in the Department of Criminal Justice and a former agent for the U.S.
Secret Service, for students in her “Introduction to Criminal Justice
Administration” and “Terrorism and Criminal Justice” courses.
“In an effort to educate students on preparation, knowledge
and potential (career) opportunities, I strive to showcase law enforcement
personnel from different levels of our government,” Williams said.
